The global pandemic that struck in 2020 was more than just a crisis — it was a profound teacher who transformed our understanding of life, work, and human connection. While the world seemed to pause, many of us embarked on an unexpected journey of self-discovery and reflection. What initially appeared as restrictions soon revealed themselves as opportunities for growth and revelation. As we emerged from this unprecedented period, we carried with us valuable lessons that continue to shape our perspectives today. These are the insights I gathered during those extraordinary times, lessons that changed not just how I live but how I view the very essence of what makes a fulfilling life.

Here are the things I learned:

  1. Working from Home:
Building a routine while working from home can be incredibly satisfying.
  2. Minimalist Wardrobe:
I realized I don’t need more clothes. Since I was at home, all I needed were jogging clothes and a hoodie, which gave me a deep sense of fulfilment and satisfaction.
  3. Importance of Routine:
Having a routine is essential. From waking up to eating, exercising, and going to sleep, I felt more relaxed and slept better.
  4. Reduced Social Pressure:
The absence of pressure to meet people brought me calmness and lowered my anxiety, allowing me to save time for other activities.
  5. Efficiency of Remote Work:
Working from home and meeting online saved me a lot of time by eliminating commuting and office chit-chat. I felt extremely efficient with my time and had plenty of time left for other pursuits.
  6. Value of Reading:
Reading books provided me with calmness and new perspectives on life.
  7. Quality Time with My Partner:
Spending 24/7 with my partner brought us closer together.
  8. Fragility of Humanity: Learning about Corona and its impact on the world made me realize how fragile we are as a species.
  9. Rediscovering Hobbies:
Picking up hobbies again brought me immense joy. Dedicating time to interests and trying new things felt wonderful, especially since I had the time to do so. Stay curious, stay playful.
  10. Focus on Health:
The confrontation with a new disease and our fragility inspired me to take better care of my body and mind, and I felt a strong desire to exercise.
  11. Travel Less:
We don’t need to travel as much as society often suggests. Many people feel compelled to see the world, but this urge often stems from our hectic lifestyles. We work so hard that we seek an escape to relax and recharge.
  12. Go Outside!:
Taking walks in nature is incredibly calming and fulfilling. Spending time outdoors is one of the best remedies for stress.

Looking back at these lessons from the pandemic, it’s clear that amidst the challenges and uncertainty, we discovered profound truths about ourselves and our way of life. What started as a global crisis became a catalyst for positive change, teaching us that sometimes, slowing down allows us to move forward in more meaningful ways. While none of us would choose to relive those difficult times, the wisdom gained continues to influence our choices today. Perhaps the greatest lesson of all was learning that adaptation and resilience aren’t just survival skills — they’re pathways to a more balanced, intentional, and fulfilling life. As we carry these insights forward, we’re reminded that even in our darkest moments, there’s always an opportunity for growth, reflection, and positive transformation.
